Failing Beautifully

Very often we see failure as something very negative. Indeed something to be avoided completely. What if failure wasn’t such as bad thing after all? How different will our lives be if we perceived failure in other ways?

Fear of Failing

Failure and the fear of it is probably the most debilitating condition we suffer day in day out. This robs us of the opportunity to truly attain all the feats we are capable of in every sphere of life: academia, business, careers, marriage, ministry et cetera.

We dread failure primarily because we fear the loss of acceptance from those we esteem highly and more brutally the ridicule and opprobrium of those weak-minded and heartless enough to rejoice at such events. What if the only one who matters is exactly that – the only ONE who matters? God,  the creator of the Universe. If the ONE that created everything says you’re already a success through Christ Jesus,  His Son then we have no business subjecting our minds to the torture of being judged by others.

Any fear is SIN. To the child of God, post the crucifixion of Christ, carnal and mortal sins have been subdued by the power of the blood of Jesus. Our righteousness no longer is determined by our works but rather through our faith.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it isthe gift of God,  not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

Failing Beautifully

This means to understand that you may not succeed the very first time you start. You may not succeed the second, third or even one hundredth time, even though that requires some effort. The beauty about failing is not the negative aspects we dwell on but the lessons we learn. Those lessons should spur us on to improve and within the appointed time we will succeed if we tarry.

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.”  – Habakkuk 2: 3

Sometimes our failure is by design. This is not always the case as Daniel showed us when victory was delayed by the prince of Persia. However, God works all things together for them that love Him. It will be unwise to succeed before the APPOINTED time. God’s timing is perfect. He is never late, nor early. Always on time! Failure to succeed could simply be our training ground for that perfect moment.

Indeed Apostle Paul exhort us not to grow weary in doing good.

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” – Galatians 6:9

Every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is already a success. The greatest ever feat of escaping the jaws of eternal death has already been secured. Nothing else matters.

This exhortation is not in any way to encourage mediocrity but to help us quickly remember that in Christ we are already victorious! We are successes. In this year you may have failed to achieve many goals and aspirations. Check this out – you’re still living, breathing and have full use of your faculties to keep dreaming. Many do not have that luxury.

When we fail let us fail gracefully and beautifully!

If you haven’t yet accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour and will like to do so then pray this short prayer wherever you are.

Dear Heavenly Father

I confess I do not know you and because I cannot see you, or touch you, it is difficult for me to believe you are there.
Yet I am willing to trust you.
I confess I am a sinner and have done many things I know are wrong.
But I am asking you today to forgive me of all those sins and make me a new person.
Create within me a clean heart and fill me with your love.
I cast all my cares and burdens onto you and I chose to live for you.
I thank you for hearing my prayer and coming into my life.
I thank you for restoring me and making me whole again.
I thank you for the new life you have given me through Jesus Christ your only begotten Son and now my Lord and Saviour.

Amen
